Growing, Exploring and Learning at TG’s Child Care Riverbreeze
Spring is here, and at TG’s Child Care Riverbreeze, children have been busy discovering just how much learning can grow from their own interests, ideas and curiosity.

It is TG’s Way in action. Educators observe what fascinates each child, then thoughtfully create opportunities to extend that interest through play. Along the way, children build confidence, independence, relationships and skills for life, because at TG’s, Playing is Learning for Life.
Little gardeners, big learning
The Joeys’ growing interest in caring for their environment has blossomed into some wonderful learning. After children began role-playing activities such as mowing, watering, sweeping and caring for their outdoor spaces through play, educators extended their curiosity by helping them plant their own flower seeds.
The children have been watering their plants, moving them into the sunlight and eagerly watching for new growth. It is a simple experience with plenty happening beneath the surface, from developing responsibility and respect for nature to discovering what living things need to thrive.
The Joeys have also been challenging their bodies through balance beams, A-frames and the much-loved crash mat, building coordination, persistence, problem-solving and confidence as they learn to navigate appropriate risks.
From recognising a name to writing it
In the Boaties room, an emerging interest in names has become an opportunity for early literacy learning.
Children are recognising their own names and those of their friends, tracing letters and having a go at writing their names independently. Educators are also helping children investigate the individual letters that make up their names, building early literacy alongside fine motor control and hand-eye coordination.
Preschool learning through play
Riverbreeze Preschoolers have been exploring early numeracy through Cookie Jar Math, dice games and a Number Hunt Challenge, while alphabet games and Alphabots are supporting letter recognition, sounds and early writing.
These playful experiences are developing more than literacy and numeracy. Children are also strengthening communication, teamwork, problem-solving, independence and confidence as they learn alongside their friends.
The newsletter also shares how children connected with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures during NAIDOC Week, including meaningful experiences with local Aunties and Riverbreeze’s Birpai educator Charlie.
