From Garden to Table: Helping Children Develop Healthy Habits for Life
Learning Beyond the Plate
At TG's Child Care, healthy meals are about much more than what is served on a plate.
They are part of TG's Way where Playing is Learning for Life. Children discover, explore and develop an appreciation for food through meaningful everyday experiences.
Many of our children experience the journey of food from garden to table. They help sow seeds, water plants, care for vegetables and herbs, and celebrate the excitement of harvesting produce they have helped nurture. Through these experiences, children begin to understand where food comes from and develop a sense of responsibility for the living things around them.
Nature as Teacher
Our gardens are more than beautiful outdoor spaces. They are living learning environments where curiosity, patience and confidence can flourish.
Children delight in discovering a pea pod growing on the vine, picking fruit from a tree, or harvesting vegetables ready to be shared at mealtime. These moments spark conversations, questions and discoveries that help children build a deeper connection with nature and the food they eat.

Building Positive Relationships with Food
Mealtimes at TG's are warm, social and relaxed. Educators sit alongside children, sharing conversations about gardening adventures, favourite foods and new flavours.

Children are encouraged to explore different colours, textures and tastes at their own pace, helping them develop positive relationships with food and confidence in making healthy choices.
It is always rewarding to see children become more adventurous with their food choices over time. Whether it is trying a new vegetable, helping prepare ingredients, or proudly recognising produce they helped grow, these small moments often become significant milestones that families celebrate at home too.

Nutritious Meals for Growing Minds and Bodies
Our seasonal menus are thoughtfully planned to support children's growth and wellbeing. Fresh fruit and vegetables feature throughout the day, alongside wholemeal and multigrain options, lean proteins, and a variety of nutritious ingredients that provide children with the energy they need to learn, play and thrive.
Children particularly enjoy favourites such as pumpkin scones, zucchini spaghetti, and our delicious pasta sauces filled with hidden vegetables including carrots, spinach, zucchini and tomatoes.
Meals are planned to cater for children's ages, developmental stages, allergies, intolerances and individual needs. We work closely with families because we believe nutrition is most successful when educators and families work together in partnership.
A Shared Commitment to Healthy Habits
TG's nutrition program is recognised by Munch & Move and Good for Kids, with menus reviewed in line with NSW Health nutrition guidelines and the National Quality Standard.
Most importantly, healthy eating at TG's is about helping children build habits that support their wellbeing long into the future.

Playing is Learning for Life
When children understand where food comes from, participate in caring for gardens, explore healthy ingredients and enjoy positive mealtime experiences, they develop confidence, curiosity and respect that extends far beyond childhood.
That is the heart of TG's Way where Playing is Learning for Life.
Because every seed planted, every vegetable harvested, and every shared meal is another opportunity to learn.
